#ShutDownFH

"Vanessa Guillén was a 20-year-old U.S. army soldier, went missing from the U.S. Fort Hood Army base in Texas where she was stationed. She was last seen in the parking lot of her barracks on April 22, 2020."

On July 2nd, months after she went missing and days after the authorities started searching for her, her remains were found near base, as well as several other skeletal remains unrelated to the search. The main suspect, a fellow soldier who she had accused of sexual harassment and but was worried to report to superiors, took his life when he was found by authorities.

Vanessa's mother said that if her daughter didn't come home alive, she would see to it that Fort Hood, which has been a nightmarish station for many before Vanessa, be shut down. The whole system needs to change, but for now, we stand with her to demand that they #ShutDownFH.

To demand a thorough investigation into and closure of Fort Hood and that they vocally support NY Senator Gillibrand's S.1789 bill, which would restructure the reporting process outside the chain of command, thus removing the military's ability to decide whether to prosecute itself when accusations arise.

To ask that they support an investigation into and subsequent closure of the Fort Hood military base, without a replacement.

Fort Hood is under federal jurisdiction, therefor officials in Killeen have no power over the base. But getting local officials to support the family and public's request for an investigation into the base is important in terms of applying pressure.
